'nuff said.ītw - there is a mod for UT called Marathon:Rampancy and some really sweet map conversions. OK, so maybe you're not playing these games for the story, but it sure added to the atmosphere to try to piece together what was going on through cryptic compter terminal messages, etc. Sounds like a small thing, but the first time I played doom, I was like "Huh? I can't look up?" Marathon: you could actually look up and down, and there were people shooting at you from above and below. The original Marathon and Marathon Infinity are Mac-only. The only Marathon available for Windows is Marathon 2. Marathon Infinity (not available for the PC) was even better because it had new weapons, monsters and textures, plus it had Forge and Anvil which allowed you to create your own maps and modify things in the game. The only thing I didn't like about Marathon 2 was that you couldn't jump. Marathon 2 was a very good game and it was one of the first to support true 16 bit colour.

I can honestly say with no bias that Marathon 2 had a superior engine and superior gameplay to Doom.

I didn't think so but we still had fun playing it. My roommate was a MacAddict and he kept touting Marathon over Doom and Quake saying that it was sooo much better.
